Discussion Questions

These questions are just to start and aid discussion. Please skip around in the list, indulge diversions, and let your discussion develop naturally.

  1. What lessons has life taught you? Do you differentiate between life lessons and other types of lessons (academic etc.)?

  2. What is the role of making mistakes in learning life lessons? Does our society treat failure in a healthy or unhealthy way?

  3. What have you learned by experience that you personally couldn’t have learned in other ways? What are your thoughts on the experiential learning video below?

  4. How would you like to be remembered? What do you hope people don’t say about you either publicly or personally after you've passed away?

  5. What’s the difference between wisdom and knowledge in your personal definitions of these two words?

  6. Do you tend to view people as in-process or as set in their ways? Have you ever spoken with someone you haven't seen for a long time and found they've changed quite a bit? Why do some people change while others don't? Have you ever sought out experiences and relationships that you felt would change you?

  7. Can you be fundamentally changed by non-experiential means (reading, watching a film, attending classes, participating in discussions, etc)?

  8. When should you avoid sharing lessons you've learned? Have you ever had a negative experience of someone sharing their experiences? Have you ever reevaluated life lessons shared by others that you've initially rejected?

  9. Do you have any shared experiences with other people who developed different life lessons than you?
