Discussion Questions

These questions are just to start and aid discussion. Please skip around in the list, indulge diversions, and let your discussion develop naturally.

  1. Are there healthy activities that you find enjoyable?

  2. Have you ever participated in a health or fitness fad? What is the difference between a fad and longer-lasting practices? Are you aware of any former fads that have now become respected practices?

  3. Does the annual health-focussed New Year's resolution surge in our culture have any impact on you? What makes resolutions ephemeral? What makes them last?

  4. Have you encountered destructive fitness or dietary trends?

  5. Have you experienced support and encouragement in your health maintenance? Have you experienced discouragement or judgement?

  6. Where do you get information about health and fitness? The National Institutes for Health (NIH), Center for Disease Control and Prevention  (CDC) and other formerly trusted US websites have had content erased, edited, and erroneous information added by the Trump administration in the past year. How do you navigate getting accurate health information when formerly respected, evidence-based resources are being politicized? Are Alberta Government sites at risk of reflecting ideology over evidence in the future? How should we respond to AI "slop" and "hallucinations" becoming more prevalent online?

  7. Semaglutide medications have made a significant difference for many people dealing with obesity in recent years. Are you aware of how these medications work? Have you experienced people making uninformed judgements toward those being helped by these medications? Do you know folks who have used semaglutide medication?

  8. Have you participated in dietary or fitness programs? (Joined a gym, taken classes, participated in weight watchers, used a fitness watch and/or app, etc?) What was your experience like?

  9. What were your formative dietary and fitness experiences in school and at home? What help is available to folks who have had negative formative experiences? How can we work toward a healthier society?
